With not much more than a month to go until the world’s toughest and most prestigious sailing event arrives in Cardiff, it’s not tooo late to make sure you are ready to welcome the Volvo Ocean Race crews and visitors to Wales.
It’s over 10 years since the round the world race was last in the UK and interest is set to be high among sailing communities all over the country. The Volvo Ocean Race festival site, called the Race Village, will be located from Sunday 27 May on the scenic Cardiff Bay Barrage and the two week event will host a full programme of free music, entertainment, education and water sports activities. For sailing enthusiasts and curious visitors, the leading boats in the fleet are expected to reach Cardiff Bay sometime on Bank Holiday Monday and will be hauled out of the water for inspection, maintenance and repair before setting off again on 10 June.
